Shamel Ash (Fraxinus uhdei) - Description

F. uhdei is native to Mexico and is a favorite in Southern California and many low-elevation deserts. It is an upright, narrow tree. It bears leaves that are divided into five to nine glossy dark green, 4 inch long tooth-edged leaflets.

Flowers are inconspicuous, and will not occur until the tree is around 30 years old. Some species have separate plants for the female and male flowers.
