Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) - Description
Edelweiss (English pronunciation i/ˈeɪdəlvaɪs/, from German /'eːdəlvaɪs/; systematic name Leontopodium alpinum or Leontopodium nivale ssp.), is a well-known mountain flower, belonging to the sunflower family. The plant is unequally distributed and prefers rocky limestone places at about 1800–3000 m altitude. It is not toxic, and has been used traditionally in folk medicine as a remedy against abdominal and respiratory diseases.

Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) - Interesting facts
There are around 35 known species in the genus Leontopodium, native to the mountains of Europe and Asia. The leaves of Edelweiss are covered with white hairs. These hairs are an adaptation that Edelweiss possesses for living in high altitude habitats as they protect plants from the cold, aridity, and UV radiation.
Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) - Soil and irrigation
Does best with soil that is neutral to alkaline and sharply draining. A soil-based potting mix with added grit or sharp sand works fine for indoor plants.
