Catalpas are native to warm temperate regions of North America, the West Indies, and eastern Asia. Catalpas grow to 10-25 m tall, and can be recognized by their large heart-shaped to three-lobed leaves.

Flowers in the spring and summer. Flowers are typical of those in the Bignoniaceae family (trumpet shaped). They are usually pure white with stripes of yellow. Bean-like seed pods develop in autumn.
