Miracle Fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) - Description
Synsepalum dulcificum, also known as the miracle fruit, is a plant with a berry that, when eaten, causes sour foods (such as lemons and limes) subsequently consumed to taste sweet. This effect is due to miraculin, which is used commercially as a sugar substitute. Common names for this species and its berry include miracle fruit, miracle berry, miraculous berry, sweet berry, and in West Africa, where the species originates, agbayun, taami, asaa, and ledidi.

Blooms small white flowers followed by ellipsoid, red berries that each contain a single seed.
Miracle Fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) - Growth
Evergreen bush or tree that normally grows up to 5'. Grows well indoors as a container plant with bright light from a window. Move plants outdoors in summer and provide partial shade. For the most part, Miracle Fruit is intolerant of frost.

Propagate from the seed or from cuttings. Seed viability is short, so act swifly in setting seed in the soil, just below the soil line.

Needs acidic soil, betwee pH 4.5 to 5.8, to grow well. Use Canadian acid peat and pine bark in equal parts, or peat and perlite mixes. Make sure the soil is also well-draining.
