Great Rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum) - Description
This Rhododendron is defined by its large leathery 8" leaves that last for up to 8 years on these massive evergreen shrubs. Native to North East United States this rhododendron loves the shade and will spread indefinitely to make large shrubby bushes. In early spring it will explode with large pink , white, or purplish flowers, that are spotted with orange / green marks.

Need fast-draining soils that are rich and acidic. Does best if the soil also retains sufficient quantities of water (amend soil with organic matter to do so). These plants need more air in the root zone than most plants do. Plants that are yellowing and that have leaves that are dropping are most likely sitting in water and the roots are drowning.
