Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum) - Description

Tree Aeonium has bright yellow flowers in spring on panicles that are up to 12" long. Tree Aeonium will grow during the winter in warmer climates. Can be grown in a greenhouse where climate temperatures are below 50F and can also be grown as a houseplant.

Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum) - Blooming

Blooms abundant star-shaped flowers, borne from the center of the leaf rosettes.

Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum) - Growth

Grows best with partial shade, or filtered light. Megaloniums grow actively in winter, particulary in warm regions. In areas where temperatures fall under 50ºF (10ºC), raise plants indoors as houseplants, or in a cool or temperate greenhouse. In warmer regions, Aeonium works great in a border.

Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum) - Planting

In spring, sow seeds at 66-75ºF (19-24ºC). Can also propagate from rosette cuttings. Take cuttings in early summer, but wait until the calluses have formed before inserting into soil (sandy cactus cutting mix is preferred).

Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum) - Pest

Prone to aphids, particularly while flowering. Mealybugs cause problems in fall and winter. Fungal rots and spots tend to occur during propagation.

Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum) - Interesting facts

There are around 30 known species in the genus Aeonium, native to hillsides in Madeira, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, N. Africa, and the Mediterranean.

Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum) - Soil and irrigation

Does best in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Standard cactus potting mixes work fine for indoor plants. Water freely during the growing season. The soil mix should be allowed to dry out almost completely between waterings. Keep dry during dormancy.
