The Columbine, Aquilegia vulgaris 'Winky Double Blue & White' is a novelty variety of columbine, with its unique double flowers. The base of the flower petals and the short spurs are dark blue which fades to pure white at the top of each petal. The exquisite flowers of 'Winky Double Blue & White' are presented in a bouquet atop the nicely mounded foliage and face upward for best display. This columbine looks lovely in a mixed container with other early summer bloomers!

The species A. caerulea is the state flower of Colorado. The roots and shoots of Columbine are highly toxic, but Native Americans did garnish their food with very small amounts of it as a flavor enhancer and to treat ulcers. It said to taste sweet.
