A. arbutifolia is a clumping shrub with many erect stems bearing shiny leaves that are rich green above, and paler below. They bear 0.5" wide brilliant red fruits.

Flowers are white or pink and not very showy, but after their blooms they have fruits that are highly decorative and last into winter.
