European Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria 'Variegata') - Description
Filipendula ulmaria, commonly known as meadowsweet or mead wort, is a perennial herb in the family Rosaceae that grows in damp meadows. It is native throughout most of Europe and Western Asia (Near east and Middle east). It has been introduced and naturalised in North America. Juncus subnodulosus-Cirsium palustrefen-meadow plant associations of Western Europe consistently include this plant. Meadowsweet has also been referred to as Queen of the Meadow, Pride of the Meadow, Meadow-Wort, Meadow Queen, Lady of the Meadow, Dollof, Meadsweet, and Bridewort.

Filipendula was once considered part of the Spiraea genus, from which aspirin gets its name. So it isn't suprising that some species of Filipendula have been used in herbal medicine and that some contain Salicin, which is an ingredient in aspirin.

Grow in average to rich soil that is moist but well drained. Some species may prefer boggy soil. With continued moisture, foliage will remain attractive throught the growing season.
