Lettuce (Lactuca sativa 'Crispy Frills') - Description

A major Burpee breakthrough! It's the first really new development in lettuce in many years-- like Romaine, Iceberg and a leaf lettuce all rolled into one. Even after the heads form, the inner leaves stay green and vitamin-rich to the center, like a leaf lettuce. The texture is unbelievably crisp yet tender, better than the finest Iceberg. And like Romaine, the heads are upright and highly bolt resistant. Outer leaves are fan-shaped with an extremely frilly top as delicate-looking as endive. This is a really delicious lettuce with a wonderful tender texture, a whole new salad experience. Its heat resistance makes it very easy to grow as well. Mature heads are 8-10" across and 6" high. It will take about 50 days for the leaf to be ready to harvest and about 80 days until it is ready to harvest as a head lettuce.
