Lettuce (Lactuca sativa 'Mighty Red Oak') - Description

Fast-growing, tender, colorful, and tolerant of hot weather, this lettuce gets 12-16" across and out-yields the long-popular 'Red Salad Bowl'. The finely cut, burgundy red eaves are very tender and mild, and very slow to bolt. Plant in well drained, amended soils and protect from excessive heat during the summer months and you will get impressive production. Space the lettuce plants 8" apart in mounds for best production. It will take about 50 days until harvesting of this lettuce.

Unless you are allowing the lettuce plants to set seed for seed harvesting, you should not allow the plants to flower. Blooms dense clusters of small yellow flowers.
