Lettuce (Lactuca sativa 'Red Salad Bowl') - Description

Maroon-red, deeply cut and finely divided leaves are very attractive in tossed salad. These plants make large rosettes that are long-standing, slow to bolt, and can be harvested over period of time. Thin initially to stand 3-4 in. apart when 1-2 in. high. Wait 2-3 weeks, thin out alternate plants for final spacing of 6-8 in. Then harvest the main heads about 50 days after sowing.

Unless you are allowing the lettuce plants to set seed for seed harvesting, you should not allow the plants to flower. Blooms dense clusters of small yellow flowers.
