Lettuce (Lactuca sativa 'Santa Fe') - Description

Texture is like crisphead but the leaves form a very loose head. Tall, open heads of crisp leaves are heavily blushed with bronze red on their tips. Outer leaves are tender and green to the base. Central leaves fold into small, blanched heads. Lettuce grows best in cool weather. When thinning out your beds make delicious extra-early salads from the baby greens. Make successive plantings every two weeks or so to extend period of harvest. 'Santa Fe' is definitely one of the more heat tolerant varietals out there, but in dry weather, keep soil moist to delay onset of bolting. Should be good for harvest about 55 days after sowing seeds.
