Snowdrop (Galanthus hybrids) - Description
Double, snow-white flowers display a generous swash of emerald. One of the best for naturalizing in sun or under deciduous trees. Easy to force.
Snowdrop (Galanthus hybrids) - Blooming
Flowering is brief, so watch for it in late winter.
Snowdrop (Galanthus hybrids) - Growth
Grow in full sun to part shade. Under deciduous trees is an idea location where they will receive full sun in early spring, but partial shade as the tree begins to leaf. They prefer cooler climates, and will naturalize if in well-favored area.
Snowdrop (Galanthus hybrids) - Planting
Plant in autumn, before the first freeze, 3-4" deep, 2-3" apart. Do not divide often, but when you do divide bulbs right after the leaves have withered.
Snowdrop (Galanthus hybrids) - Pest
Narcissus bulb fly. Galanthus is also susceptible to snowdrop gray mold.
Snowdrop (Galanthus hybrids) - Interesting facts
Its sprouting and blooming in late winter/early spring give it the name Snowdrop. The magic herb in the Odyssey, moly (rhymes with "holy"), is thought by some to be snowdrop.
Snowdrop (Galanthus hybrids) - Soil and irrigation
Snowdrops like moist, humusy soil. Keep watered during growth and bloom, and do not let the bulbs become dry.
