Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) - Description
E. aureum bears oval, pointed, leathery dark green leaves, spotted with yellow. Grows well in the shade, but bears better foliage color in the sun.
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) - Blooming
Blooms tiny, petalless flowers.
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) - Growth
Evergreen, root-clinging climbers. Often seen as an indoor plant grown in window boxes or large terrariums. Pothos needs space as it will produce long vine-like stems. If the climate is mild year round, Pothos will grow up even the tallest of trees. They do best in bright, indirect light or partial sun shaded in the afternoon. Grow Pothos against wall, through trees, or over a pergola. In less hardy areas, raise plants indoors, as houseplants or in a warm greenhouse. A warm greenhouse has a minimum temperature of 55°F (13°C). During the day, temperatures should be set to 55-64°F (13-18°C) or above, and at night, the temperature should be at 55°F (13°C).
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) - Planting
Take stem or leaf cuttings in the summer and provide bottom heat to promote vigorous root development. Repot every couple of years to give the roots some room to grow.
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) - Pest
Prone to scale insects, spider mites, and various root rots.
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) - Interesting facts
Pothos are in the same family of such plants as Cala Lilies and Philodendrons. Although their inflorescences of flowers resemble each other, the inflorescences of Pothos are rather inconspicuous. Luckily, these plants have attractive foliage and are rather resilient for indoor use. All plant parts can cause stomach upset upon consumption. The sap of some species may also irritate the skin.
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) - Soil and irrigation
These plants can actually handle some drought and wet soil conditions. During the winter months provide little water. Make sure the soil is well-draining and fertile.
