King Palm (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana) - Planting

Outside in the landscape King Palm (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana) should be transplanted in a spot that gets partial shade to partial sun. The plant can tolerate direct sun if watered well but will suffer leaf scorch if it dries out too much. First dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and deep enough that the top of it sits flush with the soil surface. Refill the remaining space around the root ball with loose top soil and water in well. Trees should be given some support until the tap root extends into the soil. Wind can sometimes topple the trees if not properly supported the first growing season after transplant. If transplanting to a container first choose a big enough pot to support the plants size. The plant is a fast grower that extends up to 1-3 feet per year so take that into consideration when choosing a container. Choose a well draining potting soil. Transplant so that the top of the root ball sits flush with the soil surface and water in well.
