Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) - Description
F. gardenii bears dark green leaves with foliage that turns an intense yellow to orange to scarlet in autumn.
Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) - Blooming
Plants grown in full sun will produce more flowers and richer fall color.
Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) - Growth
Fothergilla does best in partial shade to full sun. Full sun will give you a richer autumn display, but in hot climates, some shade is needed.
Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) - Planting
Propagation is difficult. Seeds need double-dormancy treatment. Cuttings require bottom heat (sucker or root cuttings) and mist softwood cuttings in summer. If transplanting, do so while leaves are still on the shrub. Dig a hole as deep as the rootball and four times as wide. Mulch until established.
Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) - Pest
Uncommon.
Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) - Soil and irrigation
Grow in rich, moisture-retentive, acidic soil that is well-draining. In hot climates, the soil should remain moist. Water and keep mulched during the growing season.
