Japanese Tree Peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Kamatanishiki') - Description
Paeonia suffruticosa 'Kamatanishiki' offers a unique color to the garden. The huge semi-double flowers have ruffles of Wisteria blue petals that fade to lighter lavender toward the edges. Tree Peonies differ from garden peonies in that they have a woody stem like a shrub. The woody branches do not die back to the ground in the winter and should not be trimmed back (except for any leaves that haven't fallen off in the Fall~ which may indicate you live in too high of a zone for your Peony to thrive).
