Pink Poui (Tabebuia rosea) - Description

The Pink Poui comes by many different common names, but is very widely grown in tropical and subtropical climates. These trees are known for their dense displays of pink blooms in spring. The blooms are truly remarkable if winter was cold enough to cause the leaves to drop in which case the canopy is nothing but pink in spring.

Large trees and shrubs. Grow Tabebuia in a site that receives full sun. Where temperatures drop below 46-59ºF (8-15ºC), raise plants indoors in a greenhouse or conservatory. In warmer regions, Tabebuia makes nice specimen trees and the shrubby species work well in a shrub border. Tabebuia is also useful for a lawn planting and as street trees. Salt resistant species are suitable for coastal borders.

For example, T. chrysantha is the national flower of Brazil. T. chrysantha is also the national tree of Venezuela and T. rosea is the national tree of El Salvador.
