Taxodium distichum (bald cypress, baldcypress, bald-cypress, cypress, southern-cypress, white-cypress, tidewater red-cypress, Gulf-cypress, red-cypress, or swamp cypress) is a deciduous conifer that grows on saturated and seasonally inundated soils of the Southeastern and Gulf Coastal Plains of the United States.

Coniferous trees, monoecious, deciduous or semi-evergreen. Taxodiums do well in full sun. Height varies depending on variety. One species can reach a height of 100'. Deciduous shoots fall in autumn. For shoots with buds, only the leaves fall. Attractive autumn foliage. Grows well in wet or boggy sites. Will produce aerial roots on the surface of the water. Taxodium works best as a specimen tree.
